Awakened- Meruse's story

Awakened

I was awakened by an  incessantly beep and the rays of sun on my face. When I incorporated in the bed I discovered that I was in a luxury white hospital room, with multiple cables around me, the beep came from the machine that was connected.
Suddenly a shrill voice broke the silence, it was a nurse dressed in white who ran out of the room shouting "Doctor, doctor She 's awakened. " I felt confused, not knowing what was going on and still less why I was in hospital.

Two people came along the doctor and nurse that I saw before, at first I didn't recognize them as my parents cause they seemed much older than when I saw them this morning. Nobody said anything, they were there in the distance , watching me like if I were a mirage. The doctor was the first to break the silence, he approached , standing next to me with the nurse behind him and began to ask .

"Miss Brenaghan" said in a calm voice, "Do you know where you are?"

"I" said in a trembling voice " I'm in a Hospital right?"

"That's it, you are in the St. Patrick's hospital, and I am Dr. Mayson" said extending his hand in greeting.

"Doctor Mayson, why am I here, anyway, I'm fine ". He simply ignored my question and continued asking .


"Do you remember what did you do this morning?" - This time he spoke slowly, like if behind his words there was a truth that I musn't know. My parents looked terrified, sharing an empty look of complicity .

"Yes, I remember, I went to school with Shapire in the black limousine and everything was as usual, I've finished classes and I was on my way home, that's all I can remmember, the next thing I know is that I woke up here.

The doctor nodded, "interesting it seems that your memory is still intact but some memories are lost, " he said to the nurse who was taking note of everything he said.

"Miss Brenaghan could you get up?" suddenly said the doctor. I obey him and with difficulty got my legs to the ground. I did just a few steps on the cold marble floor when I began to stagger. My body felt strange, heavier and weaker than ever, it seemed like if the forces leave me. My father ran to catch me by the shoulder supporting me.
"Doctor do you think she's prepared to know the truth" asked my father sitting me in a chair.

The doctor began to move around the room from right to left pondering about the question asked by my father. Finally He answered. "I think it's the right time Mister Brenaghan , she better know it as soon as possible and sooner we can begin the process of memory rehabilitation."
"But doctor She's still weak, can't barely stand, How could you intend to tell her now?"
argued my mother. "Mum, what's happening?, what are you hiding me?" I cried desesperately, I wanted to know the truth, no matter how hard was to assimilate.

"Well Miss Brenaghan, you suffered a traumatic brain injury, or TBI that left you in a coma for several months, eleven specificly." Said the doctor wiping his glasses on his robe.

That couldn't be, it was impossible, I couldn't believe it, and indeed didn't not want it to be true. My parents looked at me sadly, waiting for my reaction, everything fitted, the hospital, the deep sleep and especially that my parents looked older. Silent tears streaked my face and before I knew it burst into a miserable cry. One year, I've lost a year of life that I could never recover. My mother ran to hug me when she saw me crying , certainly I  felt helpless, there was nothing I could do.
